Cantor Dorothy Goldberg joined her seminary colleague and friend, Rabbi Hechtman, at Kol Ami in the summer of 2010. Before joining Kol Ami, she served Temple Beth Tikvah in Madison, Connecticut for nine years.
Cantor Goldberg started training in voice as a high school student at the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division. After earning a BA at Bryn Mawr College and an MA in Journalism and Public Affairs at The American University in Washington, DC, she moved to England and attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. She and her husband, David Ross Russell, and daughter Rebecca, returned to the USA and eventually settled in Wallingford, CT, where their son Adam was born. She was a co-owner of Goldberg & Sack Creative Communications, before attending seminary at the Academy for Jewish Religion (AJR) also Rabbi Hechtman's alma mater. She was ordained as a Cantor in 2005, certified through the American Conference of Cantors (ACC) in 2008 and is now the chair of the Board of Trustees for AJR. She also enjoys singing with the jazz/swing trio MOXIE, along with Diane Orson and Kate O’Brien.
Cantor Goldberg is trained in Clinical Pastoral Education and serves as a Pastoral Counselor for the local VNA Hospice; she is also a member of the chevra kadisha, and has a special interest in hospice and end-of-life issues. She also enjoys working with interfaith couples and families and is dedicated to creating a welcoming Jewish environment for people from a variety of backgrounds and interests.
